Our School Councillors take part in regular food tasting sessions, to help Chartwells, our catering company, plan the lunch menu. The menu changes twice a year, to provide nutritionally balanced meals with local seasonal produce. All meals are prepared and cooked on site by our team of three cooks.
There are three meal options per day, including a vegetarian dish, with salad and fresh bread offered on a daily basis. Children with an allergy or other special dietary requirement can have a modified version of the menu prepared for them, just by informing the catering team.
Hot lunches are free for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Once in Year 3, unless children qualify for free school meals, the cost for a daily lunch is £2.65.
There are a number of financial reasons that the government sets, which mean a child is eligible to receive free school meals. Parents apply through the Local Authority (Cornwall) and once the application has been successful, their child is entitled to free school meals for the duration of their time in a particular phase of schooling, eg. primary or secondary.
If you think you might qualify for your child to receive free school meals, ask for a form at the school office or apply online.
Parents may choose to provide their child with a packed lunch instead, or choose a combination of hot lunches and packed lunches, so their child can eat their favourite dishes from the menu. We ask that packed lunches are as healthy as possible, to give the children energy and nutrients for the afternoon learning and that they do not contain any nut product or ingredient.
